Mike McLaughlin is Co-Owner and Vice President of Southern Maine Rentals located in Portland Maine. Mike currently manages the day-to-day operations for SMR’s largest clients.

Mike is a graduate of Boston College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications. Upon graduation, Mike participated in the NFL Combine and the College Football East/ West Shrine All-star game where he won the Pat Tilman award, given to a player who best exemplifies character, intelligence, sportsmanship and service. Mike was picked up by the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent where he played fullback in 2010. After another injury setback, Mike was signed by the Denver Broncos in 2011.

Mike's standout football career started at Woburn High School where he was highly scouted by numerous Division I programs across the country. Mike decided staying close to home and playing the game he loved would be the best fit for him. Mike played his highest caliber football for the Boston College Eagles where he used his leadership skills to become a two-year Defensive Team Captain in 2008 and 2009. Mike was no stranger to adversity as he ruptured his Achilles Tendon yet worked himself back into the starting line up after 6 ½ months. He helped bring his team to the Emerald Bowl where they lost a heart breaker to USC.

Mike was not only a solid football standout; after his playing career, Mike found a passion in Commercial Real Estate Investing. In 2013 he began a career with NAI Hunneman in Downtown Boston and joined the Investment Sales team led by Scott Dragos and Doug Jacoby. This team was named “top Investment sales brokers” of Boston by Boston Real Estate Forum in 2013. From there they were hired on by Colliers International to head up the Investment Sales team where he continued to work and learn as an associate under Dragos and Jacoby. Although Mike found passion in real estate, big city life in Boston didn’t seem to appeal to him like it had during his younger playing days. Mike found a wonderful compromise when he decided to move to Portland Maine.

Once settled into Portland, Mike found himself introduced to Southern Maine Rentals by another local football standout that had made a name for himself with the Baltimore Ravens as a tight end. Recognizing Mike’s drive, determination, and forged leadership attributes, it was clear Southern Maine Rentals sole proprietor, Ryan Priest, had found the business partner he had been searching for. Mike’s attention to detail, his bold personality, his honest approach to life and business, seemed to be a perfect fit for the already successful management company.

Mike established roots in the heart of Portland on Brentwood Street where he has become an invested member of the Deering Center Community. Mike attends church at Paupers Chapel on Stevens Avenue where he serves as an Elder of the church. Staying close to the game he loves, Mike accepted a position as an Assistant Coach for the Varsity Football Team at Deering High School.  Mike, through much adversity, has forged himself into a high caliber leader and Portland is better for it because of his decision to make a life here.
